If plant officials are denied water from Walpole's town wells, they have suggested that they might drill their own well on the site. This should never be allowed under any circumstances as it would enable them to remove water directly from the aquifer, without any controls or accountability to the town. This would have devastating effects on the Neponset River ecosystem, and would ultimately cause problems with the quality of our drinking water. And since demand for electricity peaks during the summer months, the worst drawdown would likely occur at the time of year when it would do the most damage.
